Curtis is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina born in Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith, an Australian lawyer. She was born at Yarrawonga located in Victoria, Australia. Her father married Ojales an Filipina woman from Bolinao Pangasinan in 1982. Jasmine is her younger sister. is also an actor. Clare is one of their cousins at the father's end. Clare passed away at 4 months in 2007 from an illness of the heart.
